The Caribou, Presque Isle and Washburn Rotary Clubs to host 15th Annual Aroostook River Fun Run

PRESQUE ISLE–The Caribou, Presque Isle, and Washburn Rotary Clubs are excited to announce a newly designed Aroostook River Fun Run event, taking place May 18, 2024 at 10am. This long-time community event will continue to feature a river, biking, and 5K Run/Walk component, but each leg has been redesigned to provide a safer route and access to more post-event festivities. The committee is also thrilled to announce that thanks to the event sponsors, registration fees have been reduced and are now just $10 per person.  All proceeds from the event stay local and directly benefit the Rotary Clubs’ community programming.

The River Event, sponsored by Penobscot McCrum, begins at Thomas Brewer Park in Washburn. Participants will then race down the Aroostook River 10 miles to the boat landing in Presque Isle. First place finishers in up to 20 categories will be awarded. Transportation to retrieve vehicles and boats will be provided.

The 5K Event, sponsored by Northern Light AR Gould Hospital, begins at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds.  Runners and walkers will then race to the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s new sun installation before making their way back to the fairgrounds. Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers.

The Bike Event, sponsored by Cary Medical Center, also begins at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds. Bikers can then choose between a 16-mile ride down the Parsons Road (to the Hale Road) and back, or take a longer, 23-mile, scenic ride along the Aroostook River. This is a non-race, untimed event and both rides end at the fairgrounds.

Another new component is the event’s collaboration with the Fiddlehead Festival, which has a full day of events taking place May 18th at the fairgrounds. “We are thankful for the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce for being so easy to partner with”, says Jordyn Madore, PI Rotary Club President. “We are now able to offer a true post-event celebration complete with food, music, activities, and vendors for our event participants.”  Madore shared that The Aroostook River Fun Run will be adding to the festival’s offerings by hosting free family friendly activities from 1-4pm.
