Rotarians are - by definition - People of Action. Whether that action is taking place in our local communities, in other parts of Maine, across the border with our Canadian counterparts, or across the globe, we are all uniquely connected by our passion and drive to make a difference.

While my Rotary tenure is brief compared to many of my fellow club members, I have learned so much from each of them and the incredible impacts they are making in our communities, both in Rotary and independent of our club. Our membership’s interests are diverse and energy high which could sometimes pose a challenge - but for a century our club has risen to meet the needs of our neighbors in Aroostook and across the world and I don’t think that we are slowing down any time soon.

As you prepare for club Presidency, you’re often asked, “What’s ‘your thing’ going to be? What will you focus on? What is your goal?” Well, I don’t know how anyone could expect me to choose…so I have several! I am so excited to be bringing a monthly reading program to first graders in Presque Isle.  As our club’s Youth and Literacy Chair (and teacher in another life) I am passionate about getting kids excited about reading and sharing my passion for service with our future leaders. I also love a good spreadsheet and social media campaign, so I look forward to streamlining some of our club processes and making sure Rotarians and community members alike are up to date on the vast array of activities and events coming our way in 2023-24. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the largest project: raising funds for the Presque Isle Rotary Amphitheater, a brand new building that will provide a place for existing community activities as well as open a whole new world of opportunity for our community members interested in Arts and Culture.

Most of all when I think of my hope for Presque Isle Rotary Club’s 101st year, what I think of most is: connection.  Connecting as a membership, connecting with fellow leaders, and connecting with our community. I look forward to talking with our club members and learning more about why they love this club and how we can work together to strengthen the threads that tie us. Each of our diverse interests and passions weave together to create the fabric of a community that’s unbreakable. A Person of Action is important and will make a difference. But a club connected? Watch out!
